The £146million ACC Liverpool, on Kings Waterfront, opening in January 2008, will be one of the most environmentally-friendly venues in Europe, with its own wind farm, rainwater harvesting on the roof and a design which will produce half the CO 2 emissions of a traditional building.

ACC Liverpool, which is working alongside the Mersey Partnership to consolidate and advance the green approach to events across Liverpool, has already received a BREEAM rating of "very good." This is a guideline which is used to measure environmental credentials.

Jacquie Rogers, Convention Centre General Manager, said: 'We are 100% committed to sustainability by minimising energy consumption.

The design of the building is inherently environmentally friendly, and, as well as that, we're introducing measures such as large-scale rainwater harvesting and are taking all of our energy from 'green' sources.

As climate change becomes a reality, businesses need to consider the environmental impact of their actions as a fundamental part of their approach, not as an afterthought, the events industry will be key in supporting businesses in making this change happen.

ACC Liverpool's convention centre features 1,350 seats, a 3725 sq metre multi-purpose hall, 18 meeting rooms and total exhibition space is in excess of 7000 sq metres. The adjoining Liverpool Echo Arena has 10,600 seats and is designed to attract high-profile entertainment and sporting events.

Scores of high-profile organisations have booked to bring their conferences to ACC Liverpool in 2016, including the Royal College of Nursing, the Association of Chief Police Officers and the British Chambers of Commerce.

ACC Liverpool is being developed by a partnership of Liverpool Vision, national regeneration agency English Partnerships, Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA), the European Objective One Programme and Liverpool City Council.
